“Arbörak Wars” is a conceptual Video game for students of Universal Arts School (Valencia, Spain) to develop and design a faction that could exist in this world. The game is set in a walled viking city-state called Arbörak which struggles to keep up in the face of constant external sieges and internal wars.
For more than two centuries, Arbörak has been a strong and prosperous city-state. Their society is divided into different factions, at times in conflict, but always loyal to the same Old Gods and Codes. Their Gods are tyrannical and always hungry. Hungry for offerings, for sacrifices, and for Karth, the mysterious mineral that grows in caves and in mountains beyond the walls that protect Arbörak, in the wild lands plagued by thieves and ferocious creatures.
I worked on a faction consisting of merchants who are responsible for export and import of products and therefore dominate the port. They travel a lot and are highly educated. Even the local market value is determined by the Merchant Faction, and they play a huge role in the city’s financial economy. There are two types of members: Stationary merchants who stay in Arbörak and travelling merchants who roam all lands and seas. I focused on the concept for one of the latter ones.
